Over the last 3 years, I have attended multiple energy expos, presenting or speaking at 3. The first time, I was nervous, to say the least, but I got through it and now I’m an old hand at it. I am the exception, though, and I know it.
Jim Griffin is the creator of the Green Earth Expo and the founder of Global Green Alliance. He got his start in trade shows and that’s where this amazing story begins. After working in that field for about 20 years, he moved home to Central Florida and took up work as a carpenter specializing in high-end custom interiors. In that work, he noticed piles of debris wood which littered construction sites. This worried him, as well it should have.
Fast forward to this time last year. Jim’s concern for deforestation grew and grew – to the point of wishing to launch a reforestation project in Florida. He reached out to the Sierra Club to inquire about the possibility of doing so. He was referred to me. We had a delightful conversation and I shared that reforestation is among my top priorities.
Three weeks later, Jim called me again to explain that he had an idea to combine energy and green living expos into a single event. I flipped! What a novel approach! I knew from the energy expos I had attended that such events often lack practical information about green living so Jim’s new angle was bound to attract above-average crowds. I was in and told him so.
Eight months have passed since then. Jim and I now give community previews of the forthcoming expo. The photograph above is from the first one we gave at the Downtown Orlando branch of the Orange County library system.
The Global Green Alliance is a wonderful organization. Jim Griffin is a tremendous individual and veteran of the United States Navy. The caliber of the Green Earth Expo will reflect the intentions of its creator.
